The Study

The Study is the University of Kentucky’s centralized peer tutoring center. The Peer Tutoring Program provides FREE, drop-in, peer tutoring for many core courses in mathematics, science, & business. Offering proactive assistance, the goal of the Peer Tutoring Program at The Study is to enhance students' academic experience as early and as often as possible. What is Sustainability?

Sustainability is the ability of something to be sustained into the future, and is generally advocated for and studied through the lens of humanity’s relationship with the natural world. Sustainability consists of 3 main pillars: environmental stewardship, social justice, and economic well-being.

Along these lines, sustainability “implies that the activities of the University of Kentucky are ecologically sound, socially just, and economically viable, and that they will continue to be so for future generations,” (UK Office of Sustainability). Focusing on sustainability at a University level also emphasizes these principles in coursework, research, events, and organizations.

WholeSum

A partnership between UK’s Office of Sustainability, Recycling, and Center for Applied Energy Research, WholeSum is a platform designed to inspire, inform, and encourage our University community to engage in sustainability. To learn more please visit this link.

Big Blue Pantry

Located in the basement of White Hall. It is open to any University of Kentucky student with a valid UK ID experiencing food insecurity or hunger and operates completely on donations (both food and monetary). There are no qualifications for access to the pantry other than being a UK student. To learn more please visit this link.

Student Sustainability Council

Distributes the Environmental Stewardship Fee to advance sustainability at UK. Check their website for info on applying for funding If you have an idea for a project that will enhance sustainability on campus, or to apply to serve as an at-large council member. UK Energy Club

A space for UK students and faculty to network and learn about current energy issues, the oil and gas industry, and renewable energy technologies through seminars, meetings, conferences, and more. To learn more please visit this link.

Financial Resources

Swipe Ahead

This program provides free meal swipes to students experiencing demonstrated food insecurity. You must respond to all questions and provide detail in the narrative answers. Applications are processed and email notifications of acceptance are sent on Mondays and Wednesdays. If accepted, an initial amount of 10 meal swipes will be loaded to your UK Student ID within two business days. You will then be asked to meet with a Center for Support and Intervention staff member to assess for ongoing need and access to additional swipes/vouchers or other resources. Apply below!

University of Kentucky Basic Needs Hub

The University of Kentucky’s Basic Needs Hub helps provide for the basic needs of University of Kentucky students. This relates to food, housing, financial, and other basic needs.

One Community Cafe

UK Dining provides the ONE Community Cafe. Located on the second floor of Erikson Hall, the Community Cafe provides balanced, nutritious meals for just $1.00. Hours are Monday to Friday 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM.

Campus Kitchen

Campus Kitchen is a student-powered organization dedicated to reducing waste and eliminating food insecurity. Among other things, they seek to provide free weekly meals for UK students.

iGrad

The University of Kentucky offers iGrad, a free virtual financial assistance service, to all UK students. IGrad contains a private scholarship search service, budgeting tools, a student loan calculator, courses on important financial skills and information, and much, much more!

UK Financial Wellness

The UK Financial Wellness office is geared toward engaging students in financial literacy programs and providing a place for peer mentorship through the MoneyCATS team. Financial Wellness also provides excellent resources for the University of Kentucky student body to stay connected and well equipped to handle their evolving financial needs.

UK Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships

The UK Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships provides financial aid to students who would be unable to attend the University without such assistance. This includes the provision of academic scholarships, loan assistance, need based scholarships, and so on.

University of Kentucky Financial Ombud Services

The Financial Ombud works one-on-one with students and parents to identify and resolve financial problems affecting the payment of tuition and fees as well as enrollment. Students can contact the UK Financial Ombud at financialombud@lsv.uky.edu, (859) 218-1360, or visit them at the Funkhouser Building Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

A program that makes free food waste collection bins available to students living in Central campus.

Big Blue Recycling Crew

A collaborative effort between UK Recycling and UK Athletics to increase recycling at home football game tailgates. The main duties of the Crew are to pass out recycling bags and promote recycling with football fans. Students are hired for the duration of the football season, and must be available to work at all home games’ tailgates.

EcoReps

The EcoRep program was established in 2017 as a part of UK Recycling's goals to increase recycling and waste diversion efforts on campus. EcoReps serve as sustainability ambassadors in their residence hall as they provide outreach, participate in events, and help further the University’s sustainability goals. Each EcoRep receives a $100 stipend at the end of the academic year, contingent upon completing all program requirements.

A partnership between the Office of Sustainability, the Student Sustainability Council, and the Tracy Farmer Institute for Sustainability and the Environment that provides paid internships to UK students.

Now in its seventh year, SCGs provide funding to teams from the University working on projects (research, creative, or otherwise) that promote sustainability. Over the years, 43 projects have been awarded a total of $1.15 million.
